Quadruple Whammy: Options Expire Today

By A.J. Brown on March 20, 2008  |  Popularity: 19%  |  684 Views

Easter EggJust wanted to remind you to not forget that the markets are closed tomorrow (Friday, March 21) in observance of the Easter holiday weekend.

Also, do not forget: since markets are closed on Friday, today is when March options will expire.

Which means today is a quadruple whammy when stock index futures, stock index options, and single stock futures all expire… along with stock options.

This may add major volatility and uncertainty to the markets today. Plus, we are at the end of a very intense week (Bear Stearns collapse, Fed rate cuts, etc.).

Given all these things coming together at the same time, proceed with caution.

Common sense tells us that today might be a smart day to take the day off from opening new positions, no?

My advice: Take the day off and start again fresh next week. Have a great weekend!

Best regards always,

A.J. Brown

A.J. Did you get my last message sent to you on your blog. It was some information regarding my option position and other personal information concerning my situation. I’am trying to reach out for help. Let me know if you received it. It would be great to hear from you if you get the time. I’m finally admitting I need some guidance, but still being cautious. Thanks for the advice about not opening any new positions in regards to the markets being closed tomorrow. Have a good weekend!

Paul

Dr. Paul Polak wrote the following…

“The Poverty Paradox:

There is a Chinese proverb that say, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” However to be able to fish, he will need a fishing pole and perhaps even a boat. Now, what do you do? Do you donate the pole and boat? Do you walk away if he can’t afford to buy what he needs? Or do you teach him how to generate enough income to be able to purchase the pole and boat himself?

The Out of Poverty Solution:

You ask him to pay for his own equipment, but assist him in earning the money. Unless he purchased the pole and boat himself, he would have no investment in succeeding as a fisherman. The pole and boat would soon fall into disrepair and the fisherman would return home and wait… for someone to give him a fish.”

I believe whole heartedly in Dr. Polak’s philosophy. And, this is one of the underlying themes in how the Trading Trainer community was setup.

It’s by all means okay if you don’t agree with our philosophy. It’s by all means okay if you’re not part of the Trading Trainer community. That is what’s great about choice.

Just know that the Trading Trainer community will continue “fishing” together and feeding ourselves for lifetimes with or without you. We’re over 420 active traders strong (and over 1310 that are participating in learning).

Please end this holiday weekend on a safe note. We’ve got more fun ahead!
